I was born Keith David Tyler in Salem, MA in 1975. I was raised in a
working class New England Catholic family who believed education was
important. My parents had below-living wage jobs, but they scraped
together the resources to send me to parochial
school, where I stood out for academic excellence.
As a result of that excellence and hard work, I received a significant
scholarship to Northeastern University in Boston, and acquired a
degree in computer science and a minor in journalism.
In college, I was an active member of the Resident Student Association,
student government, professional computer science
organizations, and the editor in chief of the campus magazine.
I moved to Federal Way, WA in 2002. At first my family lived in the
apartment complexes our city is unfortunately known for. We bought our
first home in 2009. I commute to Bellevue on a daily basis where I work
as a software testing automation developer for an online software
company. I have previously worked in many different areas of technology,
for companies such as Big Fish Games, Thompson Reuters, and the Harvard
Law School.
I have been an active member of the 30th District Democrats since 2008,
a member of the King County Legislative Action Committee, a Legislative
District Delegate, and a Precinct Committee Officer.
From 2004 to 2006, I was on the board of the Way Back Inn, a
Renton charity that provides transitional housing for
homeless families.
From 2007 to 2010, I ran FederalWayan.com, a blog dedicated to issues
affecting Federal Way, which was occasionally reprinted by the
Federal Way Mirror.
Now in 2011, after spending many years watching Federal Way
developments, and getting to see Federal Way from many
different perspectives, I am running to serve and improve my city as a
candidate for Federal Way City Council.
