My vision for Federal Way.
I want to bring Federal Way into a new age. We need modern ideas to
solve modern problems. The old suburban sprawl and car-centric models no
longer work. The car has gone from a symbol of freedom to a symbol of
excess. As gas prices shoot up, and our environment sees new challenges,
the automobile's former shine has dulled considerably.
The only way for Federal Way to succeed in the coming years is to move
away from these old ideas and towards new ones, such as: Walkability.
Sustainability. Mixed use and flexible zoning.
Our current City Council has not gone far enough. It has focused on
bringing mixed use to a single downtown parcel. It has focused on
walkability only within downtown, where there is a very limited amount
of generally available housing. It has focused on increasing traffic to
cramped business districts rather than spreading traffic out and
reducing our overall car dependency. Meanwhile, our restrictive city
codes and zoning have driven away or threatened to eliminate businesses
multiple times in the past few years. Driving business away is not a
recipe for success.
I see a future where Federal Way leads its South King and North Pierce
neighbors in building a strong business base, modern living environment,
and sustainable growth. We need more voices on the City Council that
will introduce and advocate for the policies and practices that will
take us in that direction.
Help me bring that vision to reality by electing me as your City
Councilmember.
